The Department of Special Education offers four graduate programs which prepare teachers to work with students in special education.

Our special education programs are designed for teachers holding provisional, initial, permanent, or professional certificates in teaching general education classes at the early childhood, elementary, middle school, or secondary levels.

Our M.S.Ed. in Special Education is recognized by the Council for Exceptional Children and accredited by NCATE. They are registered with the New York State Education Department and therefore students enrolled can obtain initial certification at one of the following four levels:

  • Early Childhood Special Education (Birth-Grade 2)

  • Childhood Special Education (Grades 1-6)

  • Middle Childhood Special Education (Grades 5-9)

  • Adolescence Special Education (Grades 7-12)
